NASHVILLE, Tenn. Tuesday before performing in an album-release concert at the Lee County High School football stadium at 8 p.m. "I think my writing's better now, I sing a lot better and we were smarter about the way we did things this time." "Doin' My Thing" opens with the powerful one-two punch of "Rain Is a Good Thing" and the title track before giving way to current single "Do I," an aching love song whose video has been No. "I was able to pick songs that made this album more rounded. Released in 2007, that disc reached No. "On that first album, I just put all my best songs on it," said Bryan, who will sign copies of "Doin' My Thing" at the Ledo Road Wal-Mart at 4 p.m. 1 on Great American Country for six weeks running. Looking for a clunker on "Doin' My Thing" is like trying to find a female teenage country music fan who doesn't swoon in the presence of Bryan, one of a growing batch of young country guns - many of them, like Bryan, with Georgia roots - who are taking Nashville by storm. 2 on the Billboard country charts and gave birth to three top 20 singles: "All My Friends Say," "Country Man" and "We Rode in Trucks." Bryan was nominated for a 2008 Academy of Country Music Award as top new male vocalist and a Country Music Television breakthrough video of the year award for the "All My Friends Say" video. Bryan's debut Capital album, "I'll Stay Me," will be a tough act for the singer to follow. - In a recent exclusive interview with The Albany Herald, rising country music star and Leesburg native Luke Bryan said his sophomore Capital Records Nashville album "Doin' My Thing" "shows my growth as an artist." Each new listen to the 11 songs on that album, which will be released Tuesday, offers proof that Bryan's assessment is no idle boast. From track one - the guitar-laden Southern rocker "Rain Is a Good Thing" - to the closing good-ole-boy anthem "Drinkin' Beer and Wastin' Bullets," Bryan shows off the rich baritone that has carried him from Southwest Georgia obscurity to the brink of superstardom. But if there is a theme to the album, it centers around the expertly written "What Country Is." On that tune Bryan clears up for posers just what the title says by noting that: "It ain't a Rebel flag you bought at the mall," "It ain't a John Deere cap that's never fell in the cotton" and "It ain't a jacked-up truck that's never seen a pasture." What country is, Bryan sings, is "a housefly swimmin' in my sweet tea," "butter drippin' off a biscuit," "the last scarecrow tucked in for the night," "a barefoot cane pole" and "home-made peach ice cream on sunburnt lips." In other words, country - Bryan notes for the wannabes - "can't be bought; it's something you're born with." Whether getting randy with his sweet thing - "Rain makes corn, corn makes whiskey, whiskey makes my baby feel a little frisky" - or lamenting an unfaithful ex-flame - "Goodbye ain't easy, so break
